Contrary to the previous studies, Cottle questions the benefits of social media. Has Facebook's creation been a good thing?
She provides statistics of Facebook and Social media to portray how much time people spend on social media. Cottle mentions how a number of research was done to see if there are possible connections between social sites and mental health.

However, “The research to date has provided mixed results.” (Cottle, 2016). To support her statement of how research has provided mix results, she mentions both the benefits and the consequences.
In her last paragraph she says: “The research warns of the mental health risks related to excessive Facebook use and the pursuit of Facebook activities as a means to compensate for a lack of meaningful connections offline. People seem to run into problems when their Facebook activities come to replace or distort other forms of social identity and interaction.” (2016).
In her perspective, Online connections do more bad than good.
